Girl Friday Breakfast Club with Lucy Algar

Join us online for the Girl Friday Breakfast Club with Lucy Algar

Join us online for the Girl Friday Breakfast Club with Lucy Algar on Friday 5 June 2026 at 8am (UK-time) convened by Anita Taylor.

Lucy Algar is an artist, theatre and performance designer and educator. From 2013-2025 she was Course Leader of the BA Theatre & Performance Design course at Wimbledon College of Arts, University of the Arts London, and she has taught across the UK and internationally. Her practice extends across performance design (set and costume), to drawing, painting, installations and sculpture. Drawing is the primary process she relies on, in both her practice and teaching, to investigate and communicate ideas to herself and to her collaborators. Drawing offers her a dynamic space to reflect and record and enables her to keep questioning performing bodies and environments, spatiality and the role of the performance designer. When working with her collaborators, especially contemporary dancers and choreographers, she is fascinated by the similarities and differences between processes and she aims, through frequent practice, to draw marks that directly respond to movement, scale, depth, light and shadow. Lucy has recently completed a residency in Fleinvaer, Norway where she developed new approaches to creating scenographic design solutions in collaboration with the landscape.

We look forward to hearing Lucy's 'herstory' and the projects she is currently working on. More information can be found about Lucy and her work here on her webiste: https://www.lucyalgar.com/ or on Instagram @drawingperformanceproject

Anita Taylor is an artist, curator and educator. She is the founding Director of the annual Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize [since 1994] and Drawing Projects UK, a public-facing initiative dedicated to drawing [since 2009].

The Girl Friday Breakfast Club was established by Professors Kate Reynolds and Anita Taylor in 2018 to provide a friendly and informal space for women to meet and to hear from an interesting woman speaker, eat breakfast and drink great coffee or tea together at Drawing Projects UK on [usually] the last Friday of each month. We held our first online Girl Friday in October 2020 after realising we had longer to go before we could gather again for breakfast due to lockdown and have continued online ever since. We aim to retain the informal format, and events are not recorded, so do book to join in - and bring your own breakfast, or lunch or supper depending on where you are in the world! All women, and those who identify as women, are very welcome to join the Girl Friday Breakfast Club.

Joining the online event: Please note that the Zoom link to join this event will be made available in the online event information that you will find once you have registered for the event - you will need to log into Eventbrite to find this. You will then either need to click on the joining link OR copy and paste the link into your web browser to join the event on the day.

Annual subscribers will receive joining information for this event by email.

We look forward to welcoming you!
