chai breaker with asha

EVENT

An hour chai-making session and talk unpacking recipes and histories about chai and cloth to reveal their deeper meaning - both carry stories, warmth, care and (dis)comfort.

chai breaker with Asha is a collaboration between founder of chai breaker and cultural producer Parvinder Marwaha and textile artist and researcher Asha Vaidyanath, sharing their journey through chai and materials in a live chai-making talk and chai-dye textile installation.

Inspired by the icebreaker method, used to introduce people to each other so they feel more comfortable connecting, ‘chai breaker’ aims to encourage open conversations from decolonisation to gender equality through making, talking and drinking together. This sensory and interactive session invites the community to share their stories too.

chai breaker is supported by OPDC’s Great Place Scheme, funded by Arts Council England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
